1) It encourages those students who want to take advantage of the discount to meet the requirements,
2) Insurance companies watch risk VERY closely, and good students present less risk for them. The discount they offer will still be profitable for the company
3) It creates positive publicity for the company.

Because if you can prove that you are “academically fit”, then you will most likely be a responsible young adult and not cost them potential thousands of dollars.
Pretty much to sum it all up, if you can be responsible, it can save you some cash.
