Do Any Airlines Give Military Discounts ?

My son would like to come home to Milwaukee from Gulfport for the holidays. When I was in the Marines, I got a military discount to fly. Any Airlines still offer that for our serviceman & women ??

Generally speaking, airlines do not give military discounts for air fares. There is no need to. Why? Because there are military fares that one can buy exclusivley for military personnel, which are closely tied with special government fares.
The only requirement here is that one must purchase the ticket in person since military IDs are required for these military fares. Another thing is that cash and other ordinary commercial credit cards are not acceptable as payment; because it has to be a government/military issued Credit Card. And again, it must be done in person at the airline’s ticket counter, since military IDs are required.
Usually military personnel book their trips thru specialized travel agencies which has government/military contracts with the government. Ask your son to find out these specialized travel centers. I am not at liberty to specify these travel agencies for specific reasons…
Hope this helps….

Many still do… sort of. It is not like the old days.
AA has discount but you have to purchase it through a travel agency or at a ticket counter. Obviously if you go to a travel agent or actually go to the airport ahead of time and buy a ticket you will end up paying just as much even though they said you get a military discount.
Best way to go now days is to check Orbitz and such to get an idea then go to the airlines specific sites. Trust me……. you will do a lot better than relying on the general military discount. But no harm in actually calling an airline and asking as you might get lucky but that is super rare and you again will probably still get screwed.
Book soon as the airlines have cut flights for the holiday season.
It is a shame really. You would think that since we are in a war the airlines could do something for the troops. Around 2005 and 2007 they were still offering discounts but I suppose the incentive to look good, do the right thing versus revenue thing did not balance out
But nope not in this day and age with one airline that tried to charge for water.
You know who actually tends to give discounts to US service members? The overseas based carriers. That is the real shame. But then again the international carriers have not been mired in bankruptcy, unions and such for decades.

no they don’t…they did a long time ago, but these days they don’t

In general, no. Some airlines waive baggage fees for service men and women traveling under orders but that is about it.

Unfortunately, no

I don’t think they do but hey It wouldn’t hurt to call up the airline and see if they can do something.
