Should I Take Calculus 1 As An Online Course?

I’ve already taken 2 years of Calculus in high school and have credit for it at my college, but a graduate school I want to apply to does not accept AP credits. What a hassle. Now I gotta fit it in my schedule, and none of the times offered will work out. There is an online course offered, should I take it? What can I expect? I’ve never taken an online course before.

I have taken online courses before and here is my experience…
If you are one that tends to want to ask questions whenever you get stuck on something, then you don’t want to be in an line class…
If you are one that can figured things out on your own through a book or research, then you could do online classes…
For me it depends on the subject.. Basic things like history or psychology where it’s just more or less memorization and reading I can do online.. but piratical application I have found is best to do in the classroom…

In my opinion online courses are harder to take. The coursework will be similar to a normal class, but the only caveat is that you have to force yourself to be caught up at all moments. Unlike a normal class there is no extra credit at all, there is no helpful reminder of when assignments are due, and tests normally have a set time limit. The pros of online classes are the fact that you can do a weeks work in one day and not worry about the class the week, you can get little bit of help from a textbook close by (though time restraints makes it harder to do so and final exams are normally administered by live faculty) and you can casually do the class in your pajamas while chilling on the couch with a tasty bag of chips close by. Overall online classes aren’t too bad, but make sure you constantly get in some work so you don’t fall behind.

If you’re decent in math and haven’t really needed much help in your previous classes and you’re good at getting stuff done in a timely matter, by all means go for it. If you needed some help before and aren’t really great at math (like myself) I don’t recommend taking the course online unless a professor is willing to let you come in for help.

You have to have a lot of self-discipline to pass an online course…
