Why Were Some Americans Offended When Italian Tourist Places Offered (or Still Offer) Discounts?
to American tourists due to the weak dollar ? Isnt it more of a biz move to keep customers and have them keep coming back for when the economy recovers ? And do you think it were only Americans sitting in Idalo or Womink feeling offended, or do you think those who actually bothered to visit the country felt offended too ?

They’re thinking “What? You mean the US dollar isn’t the be-all end-all of the global economy?” Silly people.
The Italian tourist industry was using a straightforward business approach rather than ego-stroking. And people here in the US often have a hard time with that kind of honest approach if it doesn’t paint them in the best light. I’d guess a few of the people who were offended went and spent their weak dollars in Italy anyway and just complained to each other in the privacy of their hotel rooms. But probably most who took offense were folks who wouldn’t or couldn’t travel anyway and just wanted something to whine about.
