Are Sites That Offer Free Online File Storage Legitimate?
I’m thinking about backing up all my files online, but I am worried these sites that offer online storage space might sell my pictures or papers or resumes. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with these sites?

You can purchase a usb storage device instead, and hold all your pictures there instead of the internet, they come in 1GB to 200GB and you can purchase them at any computer or office store.
I don’t trust online storage sites even if they are legitimate. Better to spend some money on flash drives. Flash drives prices are coming down steadily..
Legitimate, most of them probably are. But they are also:
1) Slow. Backing up and restoring stuff from them takes much more time than on a local hard disk.
2) Unreliable. The site could be gone tomorrow and all your backups with it.
3) Insecure. Who knows who’s looking at your files?
BTW, elephantdrive.com says that it is free because it is currently in beta. Guess what they’ll do once the beta period is over?
External hard disks (normal hard disks – not USB memory) are cheap per magabyte nowadays – often as cheap as a dollar per gigabyte. And using them for backups is much more faster, reliable and secure than sedning your stuff to someone’s site.
